Decatur House Wedding: Stu and Jessica
I felt like I had been waiting to shoot this wedding forever. Over the course of (almost) a year since they booked me, I got to know Stu, Jessica, their families, and their friends. So, this wedding had a bit more personal meaning to me. They both have so much style and humor, I was looking forward to their big day.
And they didn't disappoint--anyone! You can tell they have a sense of humor from the photographs of each of them, together and as they get ready. But you can also see that same quality in their friends and family. People ate well, they danced well, they mingled and laughed...I think it all goes back to the couple.
Jessica and Stu chose the Decatur House for the reception, which kept the same intimate atmosphere they had started at St. John's just on the other side of Lafayette park. Once at the reception, the food was laid out party-style and people moved seamlessly from the dance floor, to the food, to the tables and the bar and back to dancing.
As for Stu and Jessica, we had some nice light for portraits just after the ceremony. Inside Decatur House, I wanted something of the regal interiors to reflect (quite literally with mirrors!) a bit more of the quiet affection between a couple that is hard to come by on a wedding day. We got it, and even found a nice spot of sunlight outside in the garden.
I was too busy at the time, but I tip my glass to you, Jessica and Stu!
