Dag's Favorite Photo from 2018

As a team, we always enjoy looking back at our past work. It allows us a chance to see where we excelled, and where we may need to improve. This year, we did this exercise a little differently. Each photographer chose one of their favorite photos from 2018- one that told a story. We’re sharing those photos and the stories behind them here. Enjoy!

This photo says “family” to me. When I walked up the stairs to this room at River Farm, the steps rise up higher than the room, and then descend four steps into this scene. Looking down from that little landing, this whole affair in front of me felt like a theatre stage. The window light moved gently across the room, and the choreography of preparation and excitement kept its own rhythm. I made some photos of Lauren getting dressed, one of her bridesmaids preparing, and then walked up to the landing two or three times, just looking for a composition that seemed to tell the whole story. Then back down again, before taking my perch, once again up those four stairs. Toward the end of their preparations, this scene—with family, friends and their individual feelings all wonderfully set on stage—arranged itself. I waited for something to tie it together. Lauren and her niece moved to make a “let’s go!” hand-slap and gave me the moment I had been looking for.
