Park Hyatt DC Wedding: Christina and Andrew
Ingrid and I enjoyed our time photographing Christina and Andrew so much, because they are remarkably open to each other. They’ve tapped into a essential layer of each others’ selves that I admire, and they’re supported by an amazing group of positive family and friends. If I didn’t have the technical part memorized, I’d be distracted by their smiles and tears. Their trust extended toward us, as well, and I recognized early on how much of a gift that was, and committed myself to earning it. They wanted things to go perfectly, but took a deep breath and told me, “We know you can take care of it.” Nothing inspires me more creatively than another’s leap of faith.
The Park Hyatt’s rooms have light in generous quantities, and it feels like a bath. When Christina and Andrew went upstairs after the wedding, they both bathed in their first moments of married life, and in a wash of sunlight that I took as a metaphorical touch from nature. Downstairs, the party revved up when Christina and Andrew returned, with one of the highlights being the “money dance” that had to be as much as an excuse to hug the couple as anything else. At sundown, we ventured outside and (frankly) enjoyed stopping traffic with the waning light. They had so much enthusiasm, I should have brought them hang gliding, but that’s probably for the best.
Thank you, Christina and Andrew, for inviting us to photograph your wedding.
